Some women are more comfortable with using combination pills such as Femodene. This pill contains two artificial female hormones of oestrogen and progestogen as its active ingredients. The active ingredients of this pill are ethinylestradiol (an artificial oestrogen) and gestodene (an artificial progestogen). This pill has been proven to be almost 100% effective in prevention of conception. The pill is best effective if taken on the very first day of your periods. Femodene is usually prescribed to women who are suffering from painful, heavy or irregular periods, continuous menstrual bleeding and premenstrual tensions.

Some women are more comfortable in taking mini pills that are available, which contain only one artificial female hormone, progestogen. Femulen is one of the most popular mini pills used by women. The artificial progestogen present in this pill as its active ingredient is etynodiol diacetate. This pill has been proven to be almost 99% effective in protecting women against pregnancy. Femulen is more suitable for those women, who are allergic to oestrogen, who are above 35 and smoke, are breastfeeding and whose blood pressure increases by taking combination pills.

Noriday is another mini pill, which at times is also referred to as ‘progestogen only pill’. This pill has also been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy in women. The active ingredient present in this pill is norethisterone. It works by preventing ovulation from occurring and altering womb lining, so as to avoid a produced egg from developing further. You are required to take Noriday for all 28 days of your menstrual cycle, and it is the most effective if taken on the very first day of your periods. Some of the side effects of this pill include changes in your menstrual bleeding, headaches and times you can also experience changes in your sex drive.

Some women have ovarian cysts and never even know it. But for most of us there is considerable pain in the pelvic region. This pain is not monthly menstrual cramps. It is the pain of ovarian cysts. And it is severe.

Cysts cause pain, generally, for one of the following reasons:
1. Something causing pressure on the cyst.
2. The fallopian tube is twisting
3. The cyst has burst

Pain from an ovarian cyst is common. Generally it needn’t alarm you. The exception is any of the following; if this should occur, call your doctor immediately.
1. Rapid breathing, panting
2. Pain accompanied by vomiting and or fever
3. Faintness, weakness, dizziness
4. Sudden severe pain in the abdomen

If any of these occur, your body is telling you something is very wrong. You should seek medical help without hesitation. Chances are it is number 2 or 3 from above.

Pressure pain you can ease. Try the following:

1. Your pain is caused by pressure on the abdomen. Be aware of what you are wearing. No tight jeans, or control top pantyhose. Good day to just stay in your pajamas, if you can!

2. Chances are you have only one cyst, or one ovary affected. So if you want to be able to sleep at all, it is wise to figure out which side gives you the least discomfort. Lie down on one side, and very slowly turn to the other side. One side will feel less pain than the other, or it could be on your back. At bed time very gently slip into bed on that side, and give yourself a chance at at least some sleep.

3. Stress will complicate your situation. It causes you to fill your body with tension, and in turn pull in those tummy muscles and put pressure on the cyst. In other words, stress causes you still more pain.

When you feel stress coming try a deep breathing method. The breathing benefits the whole body. Practice your deep breathing technique and you will find you are able to relax quite quickly when you use it.

If you don’t have your own method, follow my routine:

1. Get comfortable, sitting or lying, and close your eyes

2. Inhale gently through your nose for a count of 4 – imagine a balloon completely filling up, as your diaphragm gently pushes downward.

3. For the next count of 4, hold your breath

4. Breath out through your mouth, gently and slowly, to the count of 10. If you cannot make 10, start with 8.

About 10 breaths will help you to feel somewhat relaxed. But, stay slow and gentle. If you breath too fast, you may get dizzy.

5. Lie down where you can be comfortable for at least half an hour. Now, place a heating pad on your abdominal area. Heat can relieve pain quite well, but it is a slow process. So give yourself time for it to work.

The methods listed here will help you reduce the pain of ovarian cysts. But, as long as you have cysts, you will be subject to the pain. There are natural ways to relieve the entire problem, which do not include medication, and can end the cyst problem forever! Plus they will improve your general health.
