Interested in getting in shape and tone your muscles? Introducing the newest fad in walking shoes called fit shoes or tone shoes. They are an innovative new design of shoe that first was introduced earlier this decade. The concept is to promote a more natural step and to replicate walking on a soft surface. In doing so, the muscles in the legs are challenged more, worked more, and the result being more toned muscles.
These shoes, with the basic structure of a rounded rocking-motion sole and heel lower than toe design comprise the fastest growing segment of the $17 billion-a-year athletic footwear industry.
The most devoted buyers are busy moms and working women who spend the majority of time on their feet. Without much extra time to go to a traditional gym, these women choose to get their workout in their shoes!
The origins of this footwear segment began with the MBT shoe. They have self-proclaimed it as an anti-shoe because it treats the body like it would if walking barefoot and on soft surfaces. The advertising states that they can help with knee pain, those with posture issues, promote more calorie burn, and improve circulation.
MBT, or Masai Barefoot Technology, is another brand that has remained very popular. They were actually the first to develop this shoe concept. Nicknamed the anti shoe, they claim that their footwear helps tone muscles, improve circulation, alleviate back pain, and improve posture. The shoe brand has been around since 2002, but has recently become even more popular since being highlighted in a movie called “The Joneses” starring Demi Moore.
Many other brands have introduced shoes as well. Reebok has a fit shoe called EasyTones. It looks different than the others in that it is sleeker in design and doesn’t have a rocker sole. FitFlops have a line of sandals and boots, and New Balance recently introduced a style.
Don’t have the time to go to a gym for a workout? Then you might want to consider the toning shoes mentioned above. They are so many different varieties to choose from that it should be a simple task to find a style that fits your needs. Prices range from $50 to $250 and are available in several stores or online.
